Our Story
Artesano was established by Doug Mathieux, drawing inspiration from his deep fondness for Brazilian cuisine cultivated during his 4-year stay in Latin America and frequent visits to Rio de Janeiro to see his father. Recognizing the evolving tastes of San Francisco food enthusiasts, who were increasingly embracing various Latin American cuisines beyond Brazil, including Argentina, Cuba, Peru, and more, they decided to introduce a concept based on traditional and straightforward dishes popular in Latin America.
In 2023, Artesano came under the new ownership of Matthew Guelke, co-founder of The Plant Cafe Organic. Now, Artesano and The Plant share cafe space.
